You always hear us talking about obtaining and using the correct boxes when moving. It’s one of the foundations of having a stress-free move. Using the correct size boxes as well as boxes that are sturdy enough to withstand the contents and the move, is critical.

But with packing comes using the correct packing materials.

So if you’re getting ready to move to a new home and starting the packing process, check out some of the essential packing materials that you’ll need to protect your items and reduce your stress.

Uninked newsprint

You may be tempted to use regular newspapers to pack your items but this is not a wise decision. While the material may protect certain things you pack, what will happen is that ink will rub off on everything. And you’ll be cleaning all your items when you get to your new home. Ask your moving company for non-inked newsprint paper. It’s one of the most common things we carry.

Bubble wrap

Bubble wrap can be used to wrap all types of items in your home. Bubble wrap is a great way to protect the more fragile items in your home and items that have awkward shapes so make sure you get a roll of this from your moving company.

Large plastic wrap

If you want to prepare certain furniture ahead of time such as sofas and chairs, using large plastic wrap is a great way to protect these items. At Humboldt, we will come prepared on moving day to wrap anything that you have not but if you want to get a head start on it, using wide plastic wrap is a great way to protect various items.

Strong packing tape

Get the correct type of packing tape. You can get this from your moving company or at your local hardware store. But it is imperative that not only you use the correct type of tape for sealing boxes but you learn how to secure that tape to the boxes, using multiple layers of tape. This can mean the difference between a secure box and one that will open during transit. Check on our packing videos on YouTube to learn how to tape your box correctly.
