If you’re like many families the past year or so, you have probably conducted some kind of remodeling project on your home. We have found that families made the decision to embark on all types of home improvement projects because they wanted to enjoy their home more or they were now working at home as a result of the pandemic.

If you have ever been through a home remodeling project, you know that your home can get disrupted and things can get messy. And that’s why it’s a great idea to place your items in storage during a home remodeling project.

Placing your items in storage during a remodeling project also saves you space in your home. You can’t just leave the furniture in the room you are remodeling, it has to go somewhere. Getting it out of the home and into a safe storage facility is your best option.

Here are a few tips to make storing your items on a home improvement project easy and stress-free.

Set aside everything you are placing in storage

It’s a good idea to understand everything you are going to be placing in a storage warehouse ahead of time. We advise our customers to put everything aside before the moving company arrives. You don’t want to be running around your home the day the truck pulls up to bring your items into storage. If possible, get these items in one area and prepare them properly. Your moving professionals will create an inventory before placing items in storage.

Pack smaller items going into storage

One of the more popular remodeling jobs is renovating a kitchen. If that’s the case, you will need to pack several items before the moving company arrives to bring your items into storage. You’ll need to empty your cabinets of dishes and glassware and have those items packed ahead of time. Also, you’ll want to inquire with your moving company about the proper boxes to pack these items. There are specific boxes created for dishes, glassware, and other breakables. Packing items in the proper boxes will save you an enormous amount of stress once your modeling job is complete. Remember, your moving company can pack it all too!

And don’t forget to label the boxes with the contents and the room that box needs to come back to.

Climate controlled storage is your best option

If you’re storing items such as furniture or other household possessions that are coming back into your home, the best protection comes from storing those items in a climate-controlled warehouse. Your items will be protected from moisture, mold, and mildew as well as other odors that could come from other types of storage facilities. The last thing you want to do when putting your home back together after a renovation is have to clean items such as furniture. Having your items protected properly and stored in a climate-controlled environment is the best way to go.

If you are embarking on a home renovation or any type of remodeling project, consider storing your items in our climate-controlled facility just outside of Boston.
