Maybe you want to move to a warmer climate from Boston and finally make that move from Boston to Texas. Whatever the reasons are, you’ll want to get acquainted with your new community.

If you are moving long distance, to another state and don’t know much about the community you are thinking of moving to, check out these three quick tips to familiarize yourself with your moving destination.

Research the new community online

There are numerous ways to research the city or town you are moving to on the Internet. Most communities have a residents’ page on Facebook that you can join very easily. On these pages, you can get a sense of what is happening in the community. You can also search for community newspapers and other local media outlets to get acquainted with local activities and local town government. If crime is of concern, you can look for the police log.

Visit the new town before deciding.

One of the best ways to learn more about your potential destination is to just go visit it in person. While this may seem obvious, many people do not. Book a local hotel room and spend a couple days exploring your new community. Check out the restaurants and the entertainment scene and drive around the neighborhoods to feel more comfortable.

Use Google to see images of your new community

Google can be a great resource if you don’t have the time to visit. There are a couple of different ways and the first is Google images. There are undoubtedly hundreds of images of your new town and different neighborhoods that you can look at. The second way is to check out Google Street View and take a look at various streets in different parts of the town you’re moving to. Check out the downtown without leaving your current home.

As you can see there are numerous ways to get acquainted with your new community before you embark on your move.
