What can I do if I can’t get the moving date I want?

There are times when you need to move and the date you have chosen is either not available or not feasible. You may be selling a home and purchasing a new house and the dates that your closing falls on are just not available in the moving company schedule. Or you may be relocating for a new job and need to be in another state on a certain day. There are many reasons why your chosen moving date can be altered.

Work with your real estate agent to change the closing date

This is why working with a professional real estate agent can come in handy. There are times when situations come up and they may need to negotiate on your behalf. If you cannot move on the day you need to, try to negotiate a different closing date with the seller. As always it depends on the situation and the number of days you are requesting but it’s certainly your first step. There are several ways to do this and that’s when your real estate agent can get creative.

Place your items in climate-controlled storage

If you need to vacate your home and cannot negotiate to stay there any longer, one of the best ways to keep your items safe and secure is to place them in a climate-controlled storage warehouse. We see this frequently when it comes to Interstate moving or international moving. Because the delivery outside of your home state can take longer, some families choose to secure temporary housing. You can work with your moving company to deliver the necessary items you need while you wait to get into your new home. If you’ve relocated because of work, sometimes your employer will assist with this. It’s always good to ask.

Take a vacation and relax

That’s right, try and take a vacation. If you need to move out of your home for a short period of time, try and make the best of it. Schedule that last-minute vacation and relax. If your moving company has placed your items in secure, climate-controlled storage, you’ll have Peace of Mind knowing everything you own is safe. Until you can get into your new home, go jet off somewhere and take a break.
