We just learned that Humboldt has been named 1 of 5 finalists for the Family Business Awards this year. It’s a great honor to be recognized as a 3rd generation Boston moving company that has been helping people since 1905. You can read the article here:  http://www.bizjournals.com/boston/stories/2010/09/06/daily34.html For those of you who don’t know, Humboldt was started in 1905 by Harris Goldman in Boston’s south end. At the time Harris was actually using a horse drawn cart to deliver ice. Wow, the good-old-days! From time to time neighborhood people would ask him to help them move their household items and so a Boston moving company was born. Harris passed the company to his three sons Morris, Louis- aka Abe, and Samuel (pictured below left to right). The three brother’s ran the business for some time until only Sam remained (Abe passed away and Morris left the business to move to FL). During that generation’s ownership Humboldt had become a stock-holding member of a newly formed nation-wide organization named United Van Lines, allowing Humboldt to move customers all over the country and the world. In 2010 United Van Lines is the nation’s #1 moving company.   Today Humboldt is owned by Howard and D’Arcy Goldman, Howard being the son of Samuel (no, not that “son of Sam”!, ha ha).Growing up in the business Howard has held almost every position imaginable- from being on the trucks to sales to operations to CEO. Howard and D’Arcy’s innovation and resolve to continually improve the moving experience have brought us where we are today: a $14+ Million company in a state-of-the-art facility, working tirelessly to reduce the stress of families moving everywhere. Congratulations to the Goldman family for being named a finalist for this coveted award. And thanks for creating a company that employs so many great people and raises the bar for the entire moving industry.
