Let’s face it, the majority of items you are going to be moving when you are relocating to your new home will be your furniture. We do not find many homes that do not have at least a couple of pieces of furniture in each room of the house so as you might imagine, this is going to be the bulk of your move.

Because of that, you as a homeowner are going to want Peace of Mind knowing that your furniture is going to be protected throughout your entire move. Your moving company will do everything they can to protect your furniture but there are a few things you should do in preparation.

If you’re looking for a few tips on how to protect your furniture and even have it looking good in your new home, check out our expert advice.

Show your moving company all your furniture during your survey

Your moving survey whether in person or virtual is the best time to make sure your moving consultant has a clear understanding of all the furniture that’s in your home. When you do your survey, be as thorough as possible and make sure you show your consultant every room that has furniture.

Tell your moving company if special care is needed

Not all furniture is created equal and you may have pieces of furniture in your home that have a high value or have sentimental value. And we all know that furniture is constructed in different ways. Some pieces are very light while other articles of furniture such as sofas or dining room furniture can be extremely heavy. If you require extra care and added protection, ask your moving consultant. Most professional movers will suggest additional protection but it’s a good idea to ask.

Some assembly required

We see this often when it comes to dining room furniture. Many of these items while heavy in nature and expensive, do need to be disassembled when leaving your home. And of course, they’ll need to be reassembled when you get to your new home. You should ask your moving company if you would like these furniture items disassembled and then put back together at your new home. Professional movers do this all the time and are usually equipped with the necessary tools. And many may suggest that any way to further protect furniture during your move.

Clean your furniture after you move

Many homeowners ask us if they should clean their furniture before moving day. While our team will do everything we can to protect your furniture, it’s a better idea to have furniture items such as sofas and chairs that have upholstery cleaned once you move into your new home. Your furniture will be protected whether in our moving van or in our storage warehouse but it’s always a good idea to give it a fresh look after moving day.
