We know Summer has come to an end but you’re still not done trying to kick back and relax. We get it. You can still relax this Fall and we’ll give you a few tips for how to get back to your leisure time in short order after you get a few things done around the house.

Fall is not only a great time to get work done around your home, sometimes it is absolutely necessary to keep your home from any damage in the coming months. If you live in the NorthEast, you know that Winter is coming in some form. It can be snow, rain, ice or all three coming your way and you need to make sure your home is prepared for anything.

Also, it’s just a good time to get regular maintenance done around the home that has been on your to-do list forever. Maybe you mowed your lawn and took out the trash this Summer but many of us spent our free time with family and friends. Or moving to a new home. We sure know a few of those folks. Here are a number of things to consider for Fall home maintenance.

Around The Yard

Raking leaves

Make sure you take care of all those leaves, branches and other debris that have been falling in your yard. First, it makes cleaning up in the Spring that much easier but piles of leaves left under snow can kill your lawn. Then you’re planting a new lawn in the spring. Also, if you leave branches laying around and they get caught in your snow blower, you’re sure to make that snow blower stop very quickly when you need it the most.

Clean Those Gutters

Your gutters should be cleaned out at least once a year. In fact, it’s better to have them done both in the Spring and Fall to ensure your home doesn’t suffer any damage from clogged gutters. And don’t forget to inspect those downspouts as well. In some cases these can get disconnected and then the entire concept of the gutter, keeping water away from your home is lost. Clean gutters will help when it comes to ice. If your gutters are full, ice can creep into your roof and cause ice dams. And that can cost you a lot of money in repairs.

Check The Furnace

Don’t wait until it gets too cold to see if your furnace will turn on. Do it before the cold weather settles in. First, your entire family will be angry with you because they woke up one morning and it was freezing in the house. But two, if you wait too long, you get a cold spell, you may need to wait for a technician to show up to your home because they are now busy. Get it serviced before it gets cold.

Check For Any Loose Items

Around the home, there are countless things that can come loose during normal wear and tear. Everything from doorsteps, railings, gutters, stairs and others items. And if you have a rock wall anywhere near your driveway, check that as well. A rock falling into your snow blower will have you shoveling in no time as well as cost you money in repairs.

Once you get all the above done, you can now relax and enjoy this wonderful Fall season. Your home will be ready for the Winter, you’ll have peace of mind that your house is safe and you’ll be able to enjoy that crisp autumn air as we wait for the snow to fly.
