There are so many aspects when it comes to moving to a new home and if there is one theme that you could employ during the moving process to get you ready would be planning. Every part of your move from calling moving companies, packing everything in your home, arriving at your new destination, and putting everything in its right place needs to be planned.

That also goes for your moving day. The more you plan ahead and get ready, the smoother your move will be, and you will experience less stress.

Here are four critical things to do before the moving van shows up.

Get a good night’s sleep

One thing that is absolutely critical before moving day is to make sure you get to bed on time and get a good night’s sleep. Nothing will make moving day more miserable than getting two hours of sleep and then trying to move to a new home. If you want to enjoy the last evening in your home and enjoy some food and a few beverages, do it early. Getting a good night’s sleep will prepare you for moving day.

Set an alarm clock

There’s a lot of “last things” you do not want on moving day but we can tell you right up there is waking up late. Make sure you set your alarm clock and get up on time. Not only get up on time but even get up early. Your moving company is obviously going to do the bulk of the work, but you will still have plenty to do. And certainly, don’t forget the coffee!

Charge all your mobile devices

Depending on where you are moving to, moving day could be long so it’s important to make sure that all your mobile devices are charged. You may also be on the phone with various people during the course of the day so it’s important you have the battery power to get through your entire move. It may even make sense to just leave your phone plugged in until you must leave the house. Also, do not pack any charging cords. Make sure you have those and if you have to purchase an automobile charger, the expense will pay for itself.

Be packed and ready when the moving van arrives

The one way you can absolutely guarantee a stressful day is to be unprepared when the moving company arrives. In an instant, you’re already behind schedule. Many times, moving companies show up to a house ready to pack the truck and families still have items all over the house that need to be packed. This will only cause you to run around, pack items in any container you can find, and stress everybody else out as a result. If you truly want to have a stress-free move, be ready the night before. Then all you have to do is wake up have your coffee and your breakfast and wait for your moving company to pull up and do the rest.
