The last thing you want to do when you get to your new home is realizing that you have forgotten something. This could be physical items, or it could be an obligation such as a service or utility you failed to cancel.

When moving, it’s a good idea to make your own moving checklist of some of the final items and tasks that need to be performed before you head off to your new home.

Check all areas of your home

It’s a good idea to make sure that you do a thorough check and walkthrough of your entire home. This includes your garage, shed, barn if you have one, and other spaces. And if you live in an older home, you may have crawlspaces that you have forgotten about. Take the time and check everywhere.

Do you have a storage unit?

This is especially important if you are moving out of the country or moving to another state, you’ll want to make sure that you remember first if you have a storage unit and second if you have accounted for all those items for your move. If you have a storage unit, consider parting with the items that you do not need to take to your new home.

Check all your cabinets before moving

Most homes have all kinds of cabinets and even smaller linen closets. It’s important to check these before you move. Places we sometimes find items are upper cabinets in kitchens and medicine cabinets in the bathroom.
