Many people think about moving to a new home during the spring season. In the northeast, it’s not too hot, you can get a head start before the busy moving season of the summer months and you can also get in your new home before summer and enjoy that time as a family.

If you are going to be moving this coming spring, you’ll want to check out our quick tips for having a stress-free move in the spring of 2022.

The housing market is still as busy as ever

If you have driven by any open houses in the past several months, you may have encountered a traffic jam. The housing market in Boston in 2022 and in many other areas of the country is hot, to say the least. Because of this, houses sell in record time. So if you have decided to purchase a new home not only are you going to have to act very quickly, but you’ll have to contact your moving company just as fast. You could end up with a very aggressive closing date so your ability to get on the moving company schedule is going to rely on you making that phone call quickly. We have recommended countless times about planning ahead when moving but in a hot housing market, you cannot waste any time.

Always watch the weather before moving day

If you are moving in the spring, especially in New England, you’ll need to keep a close eye on the weather. This year we have already seen warm weather followed by a snowstorm the following day. Inclement weather can affect your move and if it ends up being a snowstorm, your move day could get bumped. At Humboldt, we do everything we can to make sure we show up when we say, but we also need to be safe for everyone. So do yourself a favor and keep an eye on the weather. This is also especially important if you are moving to another state and driving to your new home. Weather conditions can change quickly.

Map out your route in advance

Spring is awesome and for many, it’s their favorite time of the year. It’s also the time of year when construction projects begin to ramp up around the country. Before you get in your car and drive to your new home in another state, make sure you map out your route. While many GPS devices do show construction projects, another way that has been around for many years is to contact AAA. They continually update construction projects around the country and can tell you what areas to avoid. And with federal funding increasing for infrastructure projects this coming year, you may see a lot of road work.

Keep the appropriate clothing on hand

We mentioned weather and because of the changing seasons, it’s important for you to keep whatever type of clothing you need that is easily accessible. If you’ve packed all your winter coats and it ends up snowing, you’ll be wishing you had warmer clothes during your move. It’s always a good idea to throw an extra jacket in the car on moving day.
