Saugus School Students to Tour the Country with
Boston Moving Company
Saugus' Veterans Memorial Elementary School Students to Learn Geography and
History in Interactive Visit from Moving Company/September 21
September 19, 2007 - On Friday, September 21, at 9:15am, Humboldt Storage and Moving of greater Boston will have one of its drivers at Saugus' Veterans Memorial Elementary School located at 32 Hurd Ave. Introduced to the students as "Driver Dave", this van operator will present a unique and exciting program called Discover America.
Discover America aims to bring geography and history to life in an exciting and
interactive way. Geared toward fourth and fifth graders, "Driver Dave" will show up in
his tractor trailer at the school, visit the classroom to explain his upcoming journey across
the United States and then give students a tour of his truck all in an effort to educate
students. The program will start promptly at 9:15am.
Discover America teaches students:
- Geography
- History
- Math Skills
- Safety Awareness
Beginning in October and continuing through May 2008, "Driver Dave's" route will
interactively through the classroom, "transport" students to 10 cities across the United
States, including New York City, Denver and San Francisco. Each month, students will
receive letters from "Driver Dave" along with picture books, postcards and various other
souvenirs, highlighting the significant landmarks and sites located in each city. Students
will discuss this material, calculate "Driver Dave's" mileage and trace his route on a U.S.
map. Students will also be able to keep track of Driver Dave's side trips by logging on to
