Loyalty still exists –
on both sides. Humboldt Storage and Moving
of Canton Bids Fond Farewell to “Crate
Master” Abe Bryant of Hanson, Mass.
DATELINE CANTON AND HANSON, MASS…
For the past 44 years, Abe Bryant has assumed
the mantle of master crate maker and almost
every other position at one time or another
for Humboldt Storage and Moving, Greater
Boston's largest United Van Lines agent
based in Canton, Mass. Now Humboldt must
say goodbye as Bryant, an employee for almost
half of a century, retires.
In recognition of Bryant’s many contributions,
his shirt and number (44 for years served)
have been retired and raised to the rafters
of Humboldt’s expansive warehouse.
More than 75 Humboldt employees singed Abe
commemorate shirt and offered well wishes.
As Humboldt saw the demand for crate services
grow alongside the number of high-end homes
being constructed, the company incorporated
a crating division. Bryant was charged with
building custom-designed crates from solid
heat-treated wood and plywood to ensure
that relocation of that antique armoire,
valuable painting, chandelier, grand piano
or other item would arrive at its destination
intact.
Bryant had a habit of going onsite to personally
pack the precious cargo - right down to
screwing on the covers.
In addition to crating, Bryant had served
as a Jack of all trades for Humboldt. Abe
had a stint as a driver, crew chief and
crew member.
In recognition of Bryant’s 44 years
of outstanding packing, crating and loading
service, Humboldt’s Crating Division
has been dedicated in his name.
The company recently held a retirement
“send-off” party at Generations
in Avon, Mass., where among the attendees
was a Marilyn Monroe look-alike, as Bryant
is a huge fan of the late actress.
Bryant is a resident of
Hanson, Mass.
“Abe is part of our Humboldt family
and he’ll surely be missed by all
of us. We wish him well,” noted D’Arcy
Goldman, president of Humboldt Storage and
Moving.
